Christmas Caroling

This week, Thursday, the Kindergarten “Helping Hands” ministry will join with the 1st-3rd graders and go Christmas caroling at the Greenwood Center nursing home.  Please fill out permission slips and let me know if you are able to join us so I can make sure we have enough rides for everyone.  Also, don’t forget to sign and return progress notes.

Remember that our Christmas meal and the Christmas program will be on the 19th following classroom parties.  This includes all families (and the PreK have a small part in the Christmas program, too!) but space is limited so more information and invitations will go home this week.

Happy Thanksgiving!

It was a great Thanksgiving and I pray that you all were able to enjoy time with family and friends.  I hope you were able to find time to rest and relax over these past few days.  This week we will start Advent in our class as we get ready for Christmas.  Don’t forget that Pee Wee Basketball begins on the 3rd and 2nd quarter progress notes will go home the 7th.  Also, the OVCS craft fair is Saturday, December 8th!

Thanksgiving week

I hope everyone stayed safe and were able to enjoy the snow day yesterday.  I enjoyed meeting with many of you for conferences and if you still would like to make an appointment to meet please let me know so we can set something up.  This week we celebrate Thanksgiving so Wednesday will be noon dismissal and then there is no school Thursday and Friday.

Also, a quick reminder that weather is getting snowy and cold so please make sure that your child comes to school with warm things to wear on the playground.  We won’t always go out for snack recess but when we can, I would like the PreK to be able to play in the snow too.  This may mean that the K students might want an extra pair of mittens or gloves to wear at lunch recess.  If your child has extra gear and wants to just leave a set at school, that is fine too.  Please make sure that they have boots for outside and shoes for inside.  Let me know if you have any questions.

Here’s what we were up to this past week:

No school Monday

Veterans day is observed Monday so I hope everyone remembers that there is no school.  This week is also the Kindergarten Helping Hands ministry trip to the food pantry on Thursday.  Please drop off any donations by Thursday so we can take it with us and help stock their shelves this holiday season.

Parent Teacher conferences are Thursday and Friday so make sure you contact the office to schedule a time.  The next week brings us to Thanksgiving with noon dismissal on Wednesday the 21st.

A great Work-a-thon!

Last week was a great week that ended with a successful Fall Work-a-thon!  Thank you to everyone that helped and made it such a fun day.

This week is a short week because there are teacher workshops on Thursday and Friday so there is NO SCHOOL Thursday, Nov. 1st and Friday, Nov. 2nd for students.  Other reminders for this week include the donut party for the K class will be this Tuesday as their reward for reaching their fundraising goal.  Tuesday is also the next PTF meeting at 3.

Here are two noticies that went home this week (or will go home Monday for PreK) to take note of:

Reminders for this week

Last week was a great week that included a trip to the Cornish Fire Department, some beautiful fall weather, learning about how seeds grow in science and we met our goal for the work-a-thon!  Thank you so much to everyone who helped out and made it possible for us to exceed our goal of $2,000 and now we can plan a donut party!

This week don’t forget about Picture day on the Wednesday.  Please come dressed for pictures (students do not need to be in uniform) and have your order form ready.

The last two Pee Wee soccer practices are this week.  Monday is the normal practice and then Wednesday (don’t forget to bring soccer clothes to change into) will be the last one and awards will be given out at the end.

Lastly, we will end the week with the Work-a-thon on Friday.  There is no PreK on Friday.  Arrive at school at the normal time and we will meet in the chapel to divide into teams before heading out.  We will all be back at school by 2:45.  Please come dressed for the weather and ready to work.  If you are able to bring gloves, buckets, tarps, rakes, please have them labeled.  Make sure students have water and a lunch.

The next PTF meeting will be Wednesday the 30th.  There is no school on November 1st and 2nd for teacher workshops.  Also in November I will be sending home reading calendars for the Kindergarten class and challenging them to do some reading at home.  I will send home a book as an option but they can read whatever they want.  Coming up in November will be 1st quarter report cards as well as Parent/ Teacher conferences.

Fire Station this week

October is fire safety month and we have been invited to go on a little tour of the Cornish fire station this week.  We will be joining the 1st and 2nd grade class and the 3rd and fourth grade class for a trip on Tuesday morning.  If you are helping chaperone please be at the school by 8:45 on Tuesday.

Also, don’t forget that we have picture day on Wednesday the 24th as well as our next PTF meeting at 3:00.  The Work-a-thon will be that Friday the 26th.  If you are interested in helping out please let Mrs. Short know soon.

This week the Kindergarten “Helping Hands” ministry went to the food pantry in Limington with 89 donated items.  The kids did a great job helping sort food and fill shelves for them.  We will continue to collect food and we will make another trip November 15th.

Happy Columbus Day!

I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend.  I’m sorry this is so late!  I meant to post this earlier in the weekend, but better late than never 🙂

A few important reminders for this week:

Tuesday, 9th: PLEDGE SHEET check.  Please bring in your sheets with whatever pledges you have so far.  We are so close to meeting our class goal and every little bit helps.  I hope we can have everyone participate in this fundraiser.
